I have taken great care in reviewing the requirements for this document, which essentially are intended to highlight to you what happens when you browse a site or otherwise connect to the internet and in particular, my site. In writing and reviewing this policy I have become much more aware of my internet presence and trust that you will find this document useful.
Who am I?
I am a private individual, Andrea Arnold, who developed this site to fulfil the written requirements of my MFA Fine Art. I take my own privacy seriously and in this policy set out how I take your privacy seriously too. This policy sets out how I use the information that you provide to me.
There are certain legal requirements that I have to meet with this document and you will see that from some of the language that I use, how it is framed and its length.
What types of information do I collect and how?
I receive, collect and store any information that you enter on my site or provide in any other way (e.g. email). There are two types of information that I collect: information you specifically give to me and information that is collected due to the way that Internet browsers operate.
Information you give to me (personal information):
On my contact page you can send me a message which you may do via the contact form or directly to my email address.
In both cases you will be giving me your name and your email address. You will also be giving me the information contained in your message. So, for example, if you include your mobile number in that message I will then have collected your mobile number. If you send me an email and have an email signature I will become a collector of the information in your email signature.
Basically, any information contained in any correspondence between you and me will count as being collected by me provided I keep a record of that correspondence. As one of the purposes of my site is to communicate I will in general be keeping copies of email correspondence where it is relevant to that purpose. Please see the section below on retention and housekeeping.
Information that is collected due to the way the internet operates (non-personal information):
Under this heading I collect the internet protocol (IP) address used to connect your computer to the internet; computer and connection information. I also use software tools to measure and collect session information, including page response times, length of visits to certain pages, page interaction information, and methods used to browse away from the page.
Why do I collect this?
My intention over time is to build up a network of people who are interested in the same issues as me whether we use similar investigative processes or otherwise, or simply to be in contact with people who are interested in my work (my contacts).
In addition, my practice is in part a research practice and I am hoping that it will drive a number of conversations that may prove of value in the future. At present I am simply interested in developing my practice and adding to the conversation.
Consequently I may use your information for the following purposes:
to answer any direct queries you may have;
to develop and improve the site and its content so as to improve your browsing and viewing experience; and
as feedback or as input into the research and development of my thinking and activities in the future.
How do I store, use, share and disclose site visitors’ personal information
I only access Wix from private computers and have set up passwords compliant with current recommendations.
If I am required by law or requested by the police or a regulatory or government authority investigating potentially illegal activities to provide information concerning your activities whilst using this site I will do so.
How do I communicate with site visitors?

If you send me a direct email concerning this site then I will use your email address to respond to the message you have sent.
Cookies are small pieces of data stored on a site visitor's browser, usually used to keep track of their movements and actions on a site.
There are two types of cookies:
Session (Transient or Temporary) cookies: These cookies are erased when you close your browser, and do not collect information from your computer. They typically store information in the form of a session identification that does not personally identify the user.
Persistent (Permanent or Stored) cookies: These cookies are stored on your hard drive until they expire (i.e. they are based on a set expiration date) or until you delete them. These cookies are used to collect identifying information about the user, such as Web surfing behaviour or user preferences for a specific site.
My website is hosted by Wix and as part of that hosting I understand that only session cookies are placed on your computer.
However, I also use Google Analytics so that I can find out if I have any visitors and if so how they behave on my site (for example which pages do they visit). The cookies collect information in an anonymous form, so I don’t know who is visiting my site. I use the information on how people navigate my website as feedback to help me improve the site. How can you delete cookies?
If you wish to restrict or block the cookies which are set by my, or indeed any other website, you can do this by visiting www.aboutcookies.org which contains comprehensive information on how to do this on a wide variety of browsers. Retention and Housekeeping
Most of us have old content on our computers that we would long since have thrown out if we still kept everything as paper. However, when managing personal information we are only permitted to retain data for as long as we actually need it so for this context I have developed a housekeeping policy.
I will carry out regular housekeeping to ensure that the only information I retain is necessary to administer your relationship with me, to assist in my researches, to comply with any legal requirements, or to ensure that I do not communicate with people who have asked me not to. When I no longer need information I will always dispose of it securely.
So, if you send me an email with a request to join my mailing list this would have to be retained as evidence that you chose to join the mailing list. If I have an email conversation with you that is relevant to my research then this may well be relevant for some time to come. As I believe in credit where credit is due I will retain conversations about my research so that if I ever do need to give credit or request permissions I am able to do so.
How can you withdraw your consent?
If at some point you decide that you are no longer happy for me to continue to hold your personal information then you can contact me, and request that I delete it. This will, of course, result in your removal from my mailing list. Please let me know on email@example.com.
